Learn about energy for your home or business.

When switching to renewable energy for your home’s power, there are plenty of brands to choose from. One of those brands is Swell Energy. Swell Energy encompasses solar, storage, and virtual power plants for your home energy system.

Let’s look at Swell Energy here on Currents and check to see what they have to offer you in terms of home energy.

Swell Energy & Virtual Power Plants

Swell Energy, a California-based energy company, is an energy management and smart grid solutions provider that is “accelerating the mass adoption of clean energy technologies (solar plus energy storage batteries)”.

Swell Energy has a distinct virtual power plant technology platform in which it partners with various companies and clients so that there are cost savings while the grid is bolstered and the area sees climate benefits.

The company has local virtual power plant networks in California with SCE in Orange County and Ventura & Santa Barbara, SMUD in Sacramento, 3CE in the Central Coast, and RCEA in Humboldt County. They also have partners in Maui, Oahu, and Big Island, Hawaii. As for New York, Swell Energy has partnered with Con Edison in Queens and PSEG Long Island.

Swell Energy partners with other companies to enhance its footprint. Let’s take a look at that now.

Swell’s Partners

Swell partners with industry, utility, and community partners to provide virtual power plants through a variety of programs, some of which are:

  • The Swell Preferred Partner Network includes 3rd party ownership and loans for solar, solar+storage, and standalone storage. Swell Energy partners with architects/engineers, contractors/builders, solar installers, electricians, OEMs, distributors, investors, and non-profit organizations in their preferred partner network.

  • Virtual Power Plant Co-Development allows partners to join existing and new grid service programs with utilities and full-service support from Swell Energy and to be compensated for the partnership.

  • Swell Energy Financing Program offers its customers with $0 down financing or a low, fixed monthly payment structure and installation of home energy systems.

  • Swell Energy Technology Platforms covers virtual power plant technology such as GridAmp, Wave, and Compass. GridAmp is the company’s Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) that optimizes storage solutions to meet the grid’s needs. Wave is Swell Energy’s design, sales, and project management portal for DER installer partners to be able to manage their customers’ lifecycles. Compass, on the other hand, is Swell’s customer engagement platform, which enables its customers to make payments, check on their installations, and manage their service packages.

The company recently acquired Renu Energy Solutions, an installer in Georgia and the Carolinas, through an undisclosed loan amount in a move to expand their footprint to the Southeastern part of the United States. Renu is a regional hub and has been providing residential and commercial customers with energy solutions since 2010 with a focus on high-quality installations and energy monitoring services.

Jay Radcliffe, President of Renu, is quoted.

“With rapidly growing energy demand, favorable policies, and high solar potential, the Southeast is quickly becoming one the most attractive markets in the country for solar and energy storage systems,” Jay says. “Swell’s robust technology portfolio combined with Renu’s full-service in-house team and unique expertise will drive innovation and ensure clean energy solutions are not only accessible but also efficient, reliable, and tailored to the individual needs of our customers."

The acquisition includes Renu’s subsidiary, Sun Service Specialists, which provides distributed energy resources across the East Coast.
