Solar
In 2019, Maryland passed a 50% RPS by 2030 and doubled the mandate for solar. Prices have since rebounded in the Maryland SREC market. However, the SREC market in Maryland is undergoing changes. The state Public Service Commission adjusted the program for in-state solar projects up to 2MW that come on line from 1 July 2024 to 1 January 2028.
Systems online after July 2024 will receive 1.5 SRECs for each megawatt-hour of electricity generated, rather than one SREC. This puts the price at $87 per SREC starting in 2025.
How to register for Maryland SRECs:
In Maryland, SREC eligibility goes back to the system’s interconnection date, so long as the system’s registration is submitted to the state within that same calendar year. Additionally, SRECs three years older or newer can be sold.
Systems smaller than 10kW AC in Maryland that do not have a revenue grade solar meter are eligible for production estimates.
