Learn about the process of generating and selling SRECs for rooftop solar owners.
Example: If a credit is generated July 2024, how long before it expires?

Solar
In 2019, Maryland passed a 50% RPS by 2030 and doubled the mandate for solar. Prices have since rebounded in the Maryland SREC market. However, the SREC market in Maryland is undergoing changes. The state Public Service Commission adjusted the program for in-state solar projects up to 2MW that come on line from 1 July 2024 to 1 January 2028.
Pending Maryland guidance, systems online after July 2024 will receive 1.5 SRECs for each megawatt-hour of electricity generated, rather than one SREC.
How to register for Maryland SRECs:
In Maryland, SREC eligibility goes back to the system’s interconnection date, so long as the system’s registration is submitted to the state within that same calendar year. Pending Maryland state guidance, SRECs can now be sold as far as five years back from generation (Ex: SREC generated in Jan 2021 can sell up to 5 years later).
